  • No. You can attend sessions without a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP

However, if you want to claim Medicare rebates, you will need to speak to your GP to see if you are eligible. Each calendar year, an individual can access ten sessions on this plan via their GP.

  • We want to keep our focus on the clinical care of our clients, as well as make the work sustainable.  For this reason, while there is a phone number provided, this phone is voicemail only, as there are very limited times available when I will be working and able to receive calls rather than being in sessions with clients.  We encourage most inquiries to come through email where possible.

For administrative matters such as cancellations, please email with the subject ‘Cancellation’ or respond to the reminder text.  Even if we do not respond immediately, rest assured that if it was sent before the cancellation window, you will not be charged.

Inquiries made via voicemail and email will be responded to during dedicated administrative times, usually 2-3 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Due to high demand, non-urgent inquiries may take up to a week to be responded to as I work elsewhere for the remainder of the week. If you require paperwork to be completed, please allow a minimum of two week’s notice to allow to dedicate time to completing it.  Any time spent liaising with other professionals or completing paperwork outside of sessions may be charged pro rata for the time taken.

  • Yes, I gladly welcome NDIS clients to my practice. Please note I only accept self-managed clients, not plan-managed. Your invoice for reimbursement can be provided to your plan manager after each appointment.

  • The APS publishes a recommended fee schedule to guide psychologists providing psychology services. The 20245-25 schedule has set the standard 45-to-60-minute consultation fee at $311. My fees are set below this rate at $285 for the first appointment and then $240 per session following this. The MHCP benefit is $96.65 for each appointment. I am not currently able to bulk bill.

  • The rebate is $96.65 per session; eligible clients can obtain a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year through your GP.

  • I offer sessions Tuesdays 10-6 pm. These can be face-to-face or via telehealth to cater to clients living out of Sydney.

  • Your ability to access a rebate from a private health insurer will depend on your level of cover and any specific requirements of your health insurer. I recommended that you check with your health fund to determine the specific details of your cover.

Please note you can only claim rebates through either Medicare or your private health insurer for any one session.

  • An internet connection, smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. Please remember to access a quiet and private place to do the session.

  • A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a referral provided by your GP (or psychiatrist). It is generally written for anyone who has a diagnosable mental health condition that is significantly impacting their functioning.

When you go to your GP for an MHCP you will require a longer GP consultation than normal (20 minutes or so) whilst your GP works with you to determine whether an MHCP is appropriate for you. Your GP may ask you questions and ask you to complete a short screener.

Each person is eligible for ten sessions per calendar year (January-December). Typically, clients come for six sessions before they are required to return to their GP for a review to access the next four sessions via Medicare.

After your ten sessions on Medicare have been used, sessions will be charged privately. If you have private health cover for psychology treatment then you may be able to claim some of these sessions on your private health insurance. The claimable amount and number of sessions per calendar year depends on your health fund, so check with them directly about what you might be eligible for.

Note: If your doctor has referred you to a Mental Health Care Plan, it is a requirement under Medicare that a brief letter be sent from your psychologist to your doctor after six sessions and after ten sessions/or at the time of completion of treatment. This letter will provide a summary of your treatment with your psychologist.

  • The frequency of sessions and length of therapy will depend on various factors, including the nature of the issues you are presenting and their severity. For some people, their issues can be treated in a relatively brief period, though for many, it be longer.

This is something we can discuss in the first few sessions.

  • You can cancel up to two days in advance with no cancellation fee. If your session is cancelled in less than 48 hours, you will be charged 100% of the fee. This is to ensure that clients requiring cancellation/waitlist appointments have sufficient opportunity to book into these time slots.

  • A general psychologist (that’s me) has undergone an undergraduate degree, honours degree, one year of master's and one year of supervised practice as a provisional psychologist (6 years of training and 1560 hours of supervised practice before becoming registered).

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialising in mental health using the biomedical model. Psychiatrists can prescribe medication, but psychologists cannot. Often, we work alongside each other in the management of your care.
